Get Rid of Mice with Peppermint Oil

You have guests coming over for a party tonight, but the mice are running across your counter tops. What do you do!? Peppermint oil and mice… who would have thought this pleasant smell helps deter mice?

Go to the store and buy some Peppermint Oil and cotton swabs. This needs to be 100% peppermint oil, not peppermint extract – there is a difference. You don’t have to buy the brand name stuff either, as long as it says 100% peppermint oil. So many people have reported difficulties finding real 100% peppermint oil, so here’s a direct link to the real deal: 100% Peppermint Oil.

What you do is apply a few drops to the cotton swabs and strategically place the swabs throughout the house, or where the mice are thought to be having their fun.

The smell is so strong for the extremely sensitive noses on the mice that they can’t stand to be around it. Be careful though, this is some potent stuff. If you spill too much you may irritate your own nose and throat! Keep it to a few drops per swab.

An alternative application method is to generously douse a swab and then use the swab to apply it to strategic locations (counter tops, on the floor near walls, under or around cabinets, etc…). Not only will you take care of your mice problems, but you’ll also freshen up the place a bit. Now who says getting rid of mice is all work and no fun?

I have tried this technique a few times over the past few years and it definitely has worked. I think I go overboard with the cotton swabs though because I get a stomach ache due to the strong scent every time I do it. I prefer the nausea ANY DAY over a mouse running around my house!

I have used moth balls in my car. My husband refuses to allow me to place them inside the house, so I threw some under the house. I found that it keeps snakes away too. So consider moth balls as a year round pest control!

Just remember that moth balls are highly toxic to YOU! Look up moth balls and you will never again put them in your car, or any other closed space. Moth balls can cause nerve damage and other not so nice aliments.

i hate mice in everyway. I am very scared of them and to make things worse I know they are in my closet and they only come out at night. when I try to sleep they are all I can hear and it makes me so afraid. (I only get to sleep onces its lik 3:00 in the morning. and to make things even more bad they only put the mouse traps in my bedroom because that’s the only place the mice are when I am certain that it’s the mouse traps that are attracting them.)And over the few weeks we have caught 3 already so how do I know for sure how many are even in the house? I thought there was only one to begin with and will just a plain peppermint work?

After my dog passed – Mini Jack Russell – great mouser – I used mothballs last year. Their entrance spot is under the steps at the entry to my attached garage. My basement is My Woman Cave and I spend most of my time in my cave The mothballs work very well BUT the smell is really strong and can be smelled really irritating. After reading about peppermint oil I definitely want to try this but I wonder if a combination of both re: peppermint oil against the wall that abuts the basement and then a frontal line of defense approx. 1 foot away from the wall would be an effective combination. Thank you

I was told to put used peppermint tea bags behind the furniture where the mice run! It’s worth a try!
